Rome 09: O’Shea’s A Starter

Posted by Keano! on May 20, 2009

Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that long serving defender John O’Shea will be the right back for United’s Champions League final appearance with Barcelona in Rome in a weeks time. The Irishman is set for his first Champions League final appearance and will get in ahead of Rafael and Gary Neville.

O’Shea, who is often left on the bench when all are fit with Wes Brown, Gary Neville and Rafael Da Silva, has been one of the performers of the season for United doing a sterling job when employed, most notably when Patrice Evra was out at left back.

John scored United’s winner at Old Trafford in the first leg of the semi-final against Arsenal which stood us in good

stead for the return leg in London.

Speaking to the media at Carrington today, Fergie had special praise for United’s number 22,

He can play anywhere for me, all along the back four, midfield, he’s even played in goal for a short period, and because of injuries to Gary and Wes he’s been a permanent fixture.

He takes his place in Rome because he deserves it, because he is ahead of everyone now.
He is a fantastic, top professional.

O’Shea has played in every position on the field for United, and yes, that does include goalkeeper.

Ferguson has already confirmed Ji-Sung Park will be a starter in Rome, and putting the numbers together, one would expect to have United’s line up pretty accurate, although you can never be certain with the mind of Ferguson over it all.
