Fergie’s Chilling Words In The Dressing Room

Posted by Keano! on May 29, 2009

Sir Alex Ferguson is was known for his apparent trademark “hairdryer” treatment at halftime and fulltime in the dressing room toward his team when he witnessed not a bad day at the office, just a skipping work show more like. Well the wise old fella wasn’t in the mood for this course of action in Rome after United’s dismal performance against Barcelona which saw Ferguson loose his first Champions League final.

Speaking to SkySports reporter, Geoff Shreeves after the game, a man who was inside the dressing room after the match, who witnessed arguably the games most successful manager deliver his final words of the season, revealed the chilling words Sir Alex laid down,

The man whose name isn’t known to the media explained what Ferguson said to the team,

“’I’m not going to get angry with you now because you have been magnificent all season, but I want you to go home and take a long hard look at yourselves because that was nowhere near good enough.” – Sir Alex Ferguson

It may not sound like a whole not to a football fan like your or I, but thinking as yourself being one one of the players who had performed so poorly on the night, and imagining how it must have felt does make you realise that a hairdryer would have been a waste of time, and the right words chosen.

Only today did news break of possible departures from United which included names like Nani and Park. Ferguson will have taken this defeat badly one would have thought as after all, a man in his first season as manager of the Catalan giants had beaten a man who had seen it and done it before.

Well that’s best way to take a defeat in your last, but the biggest, game of the season. One dismal performance should not take any gloss away from the whole season. Manchester United is still a young team with potential to learn and win more. Of course the fans will witness some changes next season, but this time these will be relatively significant. The Red Devils could see the departures of Tevez, Nani, Park, Kuszczak and Ronaldo as apposed to the arrivals of superstars Benzima, Ribery, Valenica and Hargreaves (back from injury). The old master will definitively consider building a fourth successive team of his reign at the previously known Newton Heath Football Club.

United are the first team to reach back to back European Cup finals since 1997. The 25 game unbeaten Champions League run that ended against Barca was the longest unbeaten run in Champions League tournament history. They have just won the Premier League for a third year in a row and have the opportunity to become the first team in history to win four consecutive English top flight Championships.

Fergie has confirmed he’s staying, Ronaldo has confirmed he’s staying Rooney has pledged his career to United and the team is young with fantastic talent like Macheda, Gibson, Wellbeck and the da silva twins coming through.

This team can still make history and this defeat will only make them hungrier for more success next season.

Lets win the league next year and make it 19.

Clan Ferguson motto – Dulcius ex asperis (sweeter after defeat)
