Berbatov Happy With His Season

Posted by Keano! on June 3, 2009

Dimitar Berbatov who has been under severe scrutiny from United fans and media alike for a season which has had its ups and down for him insists he is happy with his input of 14 goals. Berbatov who missed a crucial penalty in the FA Cup semi-final against Everton after a very poor attempt was booed by sections of the United fans in his next two games.

Berbatov has played a key role for United scoring and setting up winners against Stoke City, Middlesbrough, Bolton Wanderers Aalborg BK and more. But due to his lack of running and desire to win the ball back he has come in for some criticism from the United fans, some labelling him a “flop.”

Berbatovs £30M+ move from Tottenham Hotspur last Summer saw the Bulgarian leave a team where he had scored 46 times for the London club in just two seasons. I think its safe to say that we all expected more goals from him and 14 for a big front man with a stunning first touch does seem a little short.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Dimitar commented,

"I think the season has been successful for me. Next season we will be favourites in all competitions again. After all, United is the biggest team in the world."

Confident words from a man who lost a Champions League final for the second time in his career last week having previously lost it with Bayer Leverkusen in 2002.

"Barcelona were the better team in Rome and won," he said. "It is very difficult to accept defeat in the most important final,” he continued.

"This is my second defeat on such an occasion and I hope I will get a third chance."

Berbatov may see himself start a lot more games next season if Carlos Tevez does end up leaving United and Sir Alex doesn’t pursue hot targets Karim Benzema and Klass Jan Huntelaar to replace Tevez.
