Dressing Room Camaraderie Eases Pain – Rio

Posted by Keano! on June 7, 2009

Rio Ferdinand has spoken of his belief that the friendships and banter among the current crop of United players will ease the pain suffered in Rome last month when Barcelona basically taught Manchester United a lesson for 80 minutes.

Ferdinand who is  a clear leader in the United setup has to look like the leader on and off the pitch and these comments add to it. Speaking to ChannelBee.com, Rio unveiled all with regards to who are the dressing room jokers and whose names are usually found at the end of a dressing room prank, and that when the laughing and joking knows no barriers with his teammates, there is a clear one with Ferguson which they have to respect says Rio,

"You don’t go anywhere near the boss with proper banter. But you might try and put the ball through his legs while he’s walking around the changing room – and he’ll give you a clip around the ear for doing it,” smiled Rio.

"But you wouldn’t really cut his socks or shoes up because I think you would be on the next bus out of Manchester.

"At United we’ve got quite a few people who are into winding people up. Wayne Rooney’s obviously one of the main culprits, he’s involved at all stages of wind-up material. Wes Brown or Darren Fletcher are normally the butt of his jokes. Wes now has to check his trainers before he puts them on because they could be sewn in half or the laces are gone. Darren Fletcher has this really nice, clean image but in the changing room he is usually involved in stuff like that, usually people’s phones going missing,” said the England International.

Ferdinand revealed that Ronaldo is no innocent victim either,

"Ronaldo is quite a funny lad to be honest with you. People think, ‘oh he’s this and that’ but Ronnie’s got a good sense of humour," he added. If we start talking about his gear too much he gets a bit agitated so we hammer his gear, whether it’s good or bad because we know that it gets to him."

While it’s grand joking and messing with the players you know who will take it, there’s always one or two who you just know not to mess with, not because they’ll get you back twice as bad, just because you have so much more respect for them, and the United team is no different claims Ferdinand,

"We don’t ever really touch anything on Scholesy. He’s just too good a player and too nice a man," admitted Rio.

“You just don’t go near Scholesy’s stuff, simple as that. He’s a living legend.”
