It’s All About Wayne’s World Now

Posted by Keano! on June 14, 2009

Ronaldo is on his way to Spain and I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Wayne Rooney won’t be as gutted as some to see the Portuguese man leave as the number ten can now take the reigns as the United focal point, which in my opinion anyways, he always was.

Rooney contains all the attributes you want in a player and if Sir Alex plays him in the central role which Rooney longs for then it could be the key to United’s future success.

Rooney and Ronaldo always seemed good pals at United, even after the incident in the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany where Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to persuade the referee to send Rooney off for a stamp on Ricardo Carvalho, Rooney pushed Ronaldo away and was subsequently given his marching orders. Ronaldo then turned to the Portuguese bench and winked as if to say “Job done boss.”

Now that Ronaldo’s on his way, Rooney has the limelight back on him. With our defence arguably the best in the world at this moment in time, it’s the attack we do need to bolster after Ronaldo’s departure. Rooney, as we have seen for United in the past with Van Nistelrooy and for England with Heskey, Crouch and Owen, Rooney is lethal when playing just off a front man who can hold the ball up, play on the shoulder of the last defender and set up balls for Roo tor run onto.

Rooney laughed off a question put to him last season about moving to Real Madrid which will delight United fans. When asked if he would fancy playing abroad, in Madrid maybe, the Englishman smiled and said,

“Lads, can you really see my playing abroad? No”

Rooney has spoken of his desire to stay at United for the rest of his career and do a Roy Keane on it maybe, joining the club at a young age and going onto being a legend in years to come.

Now with Ronaldo out of the way, there’ll be no more sacrificing Rooney out wide to accommodate someone else when Rooney is now the man to lead the attack. This coming season could be his best ever in a United shirt.
