Ribery Move Not Ruled Out

Posted by Keano! on June 17, 2009

Manchester United are one of four clubs in the running to sign Frenchman Franck Ribery from Bayern Munich. Real Madrid, Chelsea and Champions League winners Barcelona are all said to be chasing the highly rated left winger this Summer and after stern interviews claiming Ribery would not be going anywhere, Bayern hinted that a move could take shape this Summer.

Manchester United and Bayern Munich have battled before on transfer levels with Owen Hargreaves who eventually ended up signing for United after a long saga surrounding him. With Ryan Giggs having to be played in the center of the park these days to get the best from his aging legs, United are very weak on the left side of the pitch and with Cristiano Ronaldo seemingly inches from a move to Real Madrid, both wings at Old Trafford may need attending to.

Antonio Valencia is one name on many peoples lips but Franck Ribery along with Karim Benzema is the move many are interested in. Ribery put many clubs around Europe on red alert after impressive performances for France in the last World Cup, and was rumoured to be set to sign with Arsenal. The story never took shape and it now looks like he will be going to one of the biggest teams in Europe now. Speaking to media Bild Franz Beckenbauer (Bayern President) said,

“We discussed the issue at our last board meeting and we all agreed that, if he really wants to leave, then we will deal with the issue.”

While reports are that Chelsea have already made an offer around £40M for Ribery, United will certainly have the cash to challenge that with an incoming £80M from Real Madrid plus a further £20M-£30M from club funds. Real who have already spent £40M more then the value of Newcastle United may not have the money to bid for the winger but could well lure Bayern with added players with Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben and Ruud Van Nistelrooy all possible departures from Real.
