Questions & Answers – Anderson

Thanks to manutd.com, we can bring you a transcript of a questions and answers session with Manchester United midfielder, Anderson.

The Brazilian has never scored a regulation goal for the Champions, but did net a crucial goal in Moscow last year as he helped United beat off Chelsea in the Champions League final.

Here, Anderson talks of the final ahead and how he and the team will approach the task of tackling Barcelona at he Stadio Olimpico

Rome 09: Rooney Is The Key – Iniesta

Barcelona star, Andreas Iniesta and scorer of the goal that has them in the final tomorrow believes that United’s number 10 in Wayne Rooney may hold the key to United winning the Champions League for the second season running.

Iniesta who was a doubt for the game earlier in the week leading up to the final is expected to play after taking part in a light training session after picking up a slight knock on his thigh.

The silky midfielder is amazed by the Englishman’s work ethic and desire to do what is best for the team. Whilst Rooney is a forward player, he will give up on getting goals to help the team out defensively and Sir Alex is tipped to play Rooney on the left side against Barcelona.

Rome 09: Hopefully Not Penalties – Berbatov

Manchester United front man, Dimitar Berbatov has spoken out of his wish for the final in Rome to not go the distance and end with spot kicks. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Bulgarian admitted he didn’t want to see a penalty shootout between Man United and Barcelona, and this if it did come down to it, he wasn’t sure if he’d step forward to take one for the English Champions.

Berbatov was heavily criticised by United fans after their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Everton after a shootout at Wembley, when Berbatov took a very lazy penalty and saw it comfortably saved by ex-United ‘keeper, Tim Howard.

Tevez Eager For Euro Success

Carlos Tevez is the man in the transfer spotlight at Manchester United despite claiming a record equalling 18th league title and on the verge of retaining their Champions League crown. Tevez has his mind focused upon that final in Rome even with other stories and reports linking him with a move away from United.

Tevez, who’s future is unclear after Manchester United have come out with mixed feelings toward the price tag stuck to the forward man by his economic rights owner, Kia Joorabchian, which stands at a hefty £32M.

Rome 09: UEFA Confirm Referee For Final

UEFA confirmed earlier that Swiss referee, Massimo Busacca will the the man with the task of overseeing the biggest club game of the year as Manchester United and Barcelona meet, on Wednesday at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Busacca who has an impressive CV in terms of refereeing will take charge of his first ever UEFA Champions League final, and he’ll be hoping he won’t be a talking point the next day.

Rome 09: Alcohol Lockdown!

As of 11pm tomorrow morning until around 6am Thursday morning, Rome will be implementing an alcohol lockdown where no drinks with alcohol will be sold in shops, supermarkets, pubs, the Stadio Olimpico and any other places where alcohol can normally be bought.

It comes after Rome officials decided that if there is any trouble at the Champions League final between United and Barcelona, and then the AS Roma fans, then it would be alcohol related and this measure has been taken “for the safety of the travelling fans, the residents and the sporting event”

Rome 09: Ferdinand May Start

Rio Ferdinand didn’t play against Hull at the KC, when he was expected to feature in order to boost his fitness and get in some game time before the Champions League final in 2 days. Ferguson had stated that if Rio couldn’t prove his fitness, then he would not play against the Spanish champions, Barcelona.

Ferdinand has been out of the team since the second leg against Arsenal in the Champions League semi-final with a calf strain and has since missed four league games against Manchester City, Wigan Athletic, Arsenal and most recently, Hull City.

I’m Not The Player I Used To Be – Scholes

Paul Scholes has claimed that he doesn’t feel worthy of a place in the team for the Champions League final coming up. Scholes who hasn’t featured as prominently as he did in previous seasons believes that there is no room for sentiment and Sir Alex should send out a team without him in it to face the Catalans.

The Englishman, retired from International duties has said through The Sun that he’d be happier to start on the bench out of ability and form, then play from the first whistle out of sentiment. Scholes who doesn’t often make an appearance in the media had this honest and very respectable interview which began,

Rome 09: Suited And Booted

Manchester United today completed their off the pitch apparel for their Champions League final next Wednesday. When the club jet off for Rome, they will be arriving as smart as ever in their custom made suites, designed by none other then, Sir Paul Smith, a lifelong United fan and the man who was responsible for last seasons suits worn to Moscow and back.

Manchester United was voted as the best dressed team in Europe a few months back, and they’ll continue the tradition for Rome. Sir Alex has always believed in having a smartly dressed team for occasions like this and the results below don’t disappoint.

Rome 09: United Unveil Pre-Match Mosaic

Manchester United and Stretford End Flags (SEF) confirmed today that before the kick-off of the Champions League final in Rome next week, they will have another mosaic covering their end as the teams emerge for their final game of the season.

Last season, United portrayed the “BELIEVE” message in both their semi-final game at home to Barcelona and in Moscow when they played Chelsea in the final. They have however decided to change the message this time around and all United fans I have spoken to so far are very happy with the final decision.
