Vidic Staying At United

Nemanja Vidic will be staying at Manchester United after reports were linking him heavily with Real Madrid and most notably, Barcelona. However, the Serbian will be seeing his current contract out with the English Champions and will hopefully be renewing it.

Vidic’s agent, Paolo Fabbri, spoke of his belief that unless there was a moment of madness from “some Arab,” Vidic would be a United player next season, dismissing reports from Spain and Italy.

United’s Highs & Lows

Another season has come and gone in the world of football and as always, it brings its highs and lows. MUN has comprised a list of United’s Five Highs and Five Lows for the 2008/2009 season. Some are blatantly obvious, and some maybe not so much, but either way, everyone will have their views on the season.

While the lows were hard to come by in all fairness, the highs list was endless and triumphs in the World Club Cup and Carling Cup miss out on MUN’s top 5 believe it or not along with Ryan Giggs stunning achievement of landing the PFA Player Of The Year award for the first time in his illustrious career.

Rome 09: Ferdinand May Start

Rio Ferdinand didn’t play against Hull at the KC, when he was expected to feature in order to boost his fitness and get in some game time before the Champions League final in 2 days. Ferguson had stated that if Rio couldn’t prove his fitness, then he would not play against the Spanish champions, Barcelona.

Ferdinand has been out of the team since the second leg against Arsenal in the Champions League semi-final with a calf strain and has since missed four league games against Manchester City, Wigan Athletic, Arsenal and most recently, Hull City.

Ferguson Rues Selling Pique

The Spaniard was sold to the La Liga side last Summer after showing signs of annoyance at the lack of first team football. Barcelona snapped up the man who had spent a while at the club when he was younger for a cool €5M.

Pique has been an integral part of the Catalan’s defence this season, and the ex-Man Utd man is sure to start in Rome against his former employer’s.

Giggs Picks A Personal United Team

Winner of an eleventh League title last Saturday, Ryan Giggs was asked over the weekend to submit a team of former and present United players he played with. There were some slight surprises in the Welshman’s selection but when considered, it is a pretty impressive line out.

Giggs opted to go with a 4-4-2 formation, but in his team, there were no places for United stars like Nemanja Vidic, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Jose After Vidic?

Inter Milan boss, Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in Manchester United’s star centre back, Player’s Player Of the Year and Fans’ Player Of The Year. Milan who sealed their Seria A title earlier in the week have wasted no time in preparing for next season and apparently sorting out the finances in order to have a bid ready for United soon after the Champions League final.

Manchester United Player of the Year Awards 2009

As is the usual every year, the United stars make an appearance at the awards dinner in the Manchester Suite, where guests take a look back on the season gone by, take part in charity auctions, and most importantly, learn who is the winner of the big awards. As was the case of years gone by, life long United fan and ITV host Jim Rosenthal presented the night from the stand.
